The aim of the Home Composed Song Contest is simple: to give Eurovision fans who also write their own music the chance to take participate in a Eurovision-style competition, where they take part both as artists and judges.
Entries come from all over Europe, and cover a wide range of musical styles.
Past competitors have gone on to take part in Eurovision finals, including two singers from the 1998 Contest in Birmingham; Michalis Hasjiyannis, from Cyprus, who took part in HCSC 1994, and Malta’s Chiara (who’s 1997 Home Composed entry was retrospectively disqualified for being professional).
More recently, Jonas Gladnikoff tried his hand in the Home Composed Song Contest, before going on to write the Irish Eurovision entries in both 2009 and 2010. In 2010 Jonas reached the grand final. Last year’s Cypriot entry was written by 2007 Home Composed entrant Andreas Anastasiou. Listen to their Home Composed entries in the Hall of Fame.
Last year’s winning entry was ‘Running on Empty’, written by David Graaff and Andy Brook, performed by ‘londonvision, feat. Tiina’- bringing the trophy to the UK for the first time.
Andy Brook is proud to present 20th anniversary edition of the contest from London, UK, and invites songwriters, singers and producers from across Europe to put their best song forward. During August and September we will be revealing this year’s entries as they are submitted. Closing Date for entries is 2 October. Radio International will showcase the songs during October, and at the same time a public vote will be open on the contest website.
The results will be announced here on 1 November 2011 and on Radio International the day after.
